When we opened The Black Duck in 2023, this was completely new territory for us.
We’d spent 7 years building Lindfield Coffee Works, and this was our first site under a totally new brand. We had lots of ideas for what The Black Duck could be. Over months we tried, tweaked, tested… but nothing stuck.
Then, when Kris found himself on a stopover in Miami, a chance visit to La Sandwicherie made it all click.
Subs became the hero.
Bold, nostalgic Americana flavours. A love letter to NYC and its culture - something we’ve always admired. We wanted to bring a slice of that energy to towns and villages in the South East. That’s when we realised the name ‘The Black Duck’ didn’t quite fit.
It tells a story about our roots and our connection to Lindfield, but that’s about it.
So, keeping that heritage (and not straying too far from the brand that we’ve poured our hearts into), we landed here. Same people. Same values.
